2027: Taraba Governor Kefas Explains Decision to Join APC

Taraba State Governor, Agbu Kefas, has formally announced his intention to join the All Progressives Congress (APC), offering a detailed explanation of the political, administrative, and developmental considerations behind his decision.

Speaking during a meeting with key stakeholders in Jalingo, Governor Kefas described his move as a “strategic realignment” aimed at securing stronger national support for Taraba’s long-term developmental agenda ahead of the 2027 political cycle. He noted that his choice was influenced by months of consultations with community leaders, political associates, youth groups, and senior government officials within the state.

According to the governor, Taraba’s unique developmental needs—including security stabilization, infrastructure expansion, job creation, and improved access to federal resources—require closer collaboration with the political structure at the national level. He explained that joining the APC was essential to ensuring that the state is not isolated from key national decisions that affect resource allocation and federal-backed projects.

Governor Kefas emphasized that his defection was not driven by personal ambition alone but by a commitment to reposition Taraba in a way that ensures continuity of developmental initiatives. He stated that several ongoing projects, especially those involving road construction, power supply expansion, agribusiness support, and security partnerships, would benefit from better integration with federal ministries and agencies.

He also highlighted the need for political stability within Taraba, noting that aligning with a stronger political bloc would create a more supportive environment for governance. Kefas reassured residents that his administration’s priorities—including social welfare reforms, education upgrades, civil service restructuring, and youth empowerment—would remain unchanged despite his party switch.

Addressing concerns from supporters who questioned the timing of the move, the governor insisted that the decision was made after careful assessment of the political landscape and its implications for Taraba’s future. He called on citizens to focus on the broader goal of improving the state’s development prospects rather than viewing the move through the lens of partisan rivalry.

Kefas also expressed appreciation to political leaders who encouraged him during the consultation process, noting that such support reinforced his belief that Taraba would gain more opportunities by operating within a broader national coalition.

As reactions continue to trail his announcement, the governor urged residents to remain calm and united, assuring them that his administration would continue to work for the collective good of the state regardless of political realignments.
