Christian cleric, Reverend Dachomo, has raised the alarm that Boko Haram terrorists have allegedly placed a bounty on his head following his continuous outspokenness against violent extremism and the persistent attacks on communities in the northern region. The cleric disclosed his concerns while addressing members of his congregation and community leaders during a security briefing aimed at sensitizing residents about ongoing threats.
According to Rev Dachomo, credible sources familiar with the activities of the insurgent group informed him that his advocacy work, particularly his efforts to mobilize local communities against terror operations, has made him a prime target. He explained that his open condemnation of attacks on villages and his calls for stronger community resistance have not gone unnoticed by the militants.
The cleric revealed that he has already taken steps to enhance his personal security, including limiting his travel, avoiding late-night engagements, and coordinating closely with local security personnel. He stressed, however, that the threat has left his family and congregation deeply worried, as the insurgents are known for carrying out targeted attacks on individuals who oppose their ideology.
Rev Dachomo urged the government and security agencies to take the situation seriously, warning that threats against vocal community leaders could be an attempt by insurgents to silence influential voices that inspire resistance and unity among vulnerable populations. He emphasized that if community leaders are intimidated into silence, the terrorists may gain more ground in spreading fear and carrying out attacks unchallenged.
Despite the danger, the cleric maintained that he will not be deterred from speaking out against violence. He appealed to Nigerians—especially those in affected regions—to continue supporting one another, sharing security information, and rejecting all forms of extremism.
Community members at the meeting expressed alarm at the revelation and pledged to stand with the cleric. Some also called on authorities to provide additional protection to activists, religious leaders, and civilians who are at risk as a result of their advocacy for peace.
As the threat level remains a concern, Rev Dachomo reiterated that his resolve to fight for justice, safety, and peaceful coexistence remains unshaken, even as he urged the public to remain vigilant and prayerful.
