Experts Assure Fibroid Surgery Is Safe Under Qualified Medical Care

Medical experts have reassured women that fibroid surgery is safe when performed by qualified and experienced healthcare professionals, stressing that advances in medical technology and improved surgical techniques have significantly reduced risks associated with the procedure.

Speaking during a health awareness forum, gynaecologists explained that uterine fibroids are common, non-cancerous growths that affect many women of reproductive age. While not all fibroids require surgery, specialists noted that medical intervention becomes necessary when the condition causes severe pain, heavy menstrual bleeding, infertility, anaemia, or pressure on surrounding organs.

According to the experts, modern surgical options—including myomectomy and hysterectomy, as well as minimally invasive procedures such as laparoscopy—have improved patient outcomes and shortened recovery times. They emphasized that when surgeries are carried out in well-equipped hospitals by trained professionals, complications are rare and manageable.

The gynaecologists also addressed widespread fears and misinformation surrounding fibroid surgery, noting that many women delay treatment due to myths about infertility, excessive bleeding, or long-term health consequences. They clarified that, in most cases, fertility can be preserved, especially when fibroids are carefully removed without damaging the uterus.

Patients were advised to seek early medical evaluation and avoid unverified treatments or self-medication. The experts warned against relying on unproven remedies, stating that such approaches often worsen the condition and complicate future medical intervention.

They further stressed the importance of proper diagnosis through ultrasound scans and other relevant tests before deciding on the most appropriate treatment plan. Individualized care, they said, ensures that each patient receives treatment tailored to her health needs, age, and reproductive goals.

The forum concluded with a call for increased public education on women’s reproductive health, urging women to consult certified gynaecologists and attend regular medical check-ups. The specialists reaffirmed that with professional care, fibroid surgery remains a safe and effective solution for women whose condition requires surgical treatment.
