The Nigerian military has uncovered a concealed underground supply network believed to be operated by Boko Haram insurgents in parts of Borno State, marking a significant development in the ongoing fight against terrorism in the North-East.
The discovery was made during an intelligence-driven operation carried out by troops deployed to the area following reports of unusual movements and suspected logistical activities linked to insurgent groups. After extensive reconnaissance and search operations, soldiers located a hidden facility buried beneath the ground and carefully camouflaged to avoid detection.
Military sources disclosed that the underground base was being used as a storage and distribution hub for critical supplies that supported Boko Haram’s operations. Items recovered from the site included large quantities of foodstuffs, fuel, medical materials, communication devices, and other logistics essential for sustaining fighters in the field. Some materials suspected to be linked to the production of improvised explosive devices were also found at the location.
The structure of the supply network indicated deliberate planning and long-term use, with reinforced sections and concealed entry points designed to withstand air surveillance and ground patrols. Security officials noted that the discovery highlights the adaptive tactics employed by insurgents to evade military pressure and maintain their operational capacity.
Following the operation, the facility was dismantled, and all recovered items were secured. The area was thoroughly cleared to prevent further use by insurgents, while additional patrols were deployed to track possible escape routes and identify collaborators who may have supported the logistics network.
The military described the operation as a major setback for Boko Haram, stressing that disrupting supply chains is critical to weakening insurgent groups and limiting their ability to carry out attacks. Troops were commended for their vigilance and professionalism, as efforts continue to restore lasting peace and stability across Borno State and the wider North-East region.
Residents in nearby communities were reassured of increased security presence, with the military urging members of the public to continue providing timely and credible information that can aid ongoing counter-terrorism operations.
