AGF Assumes Control of ICPC Fraud Case Involving Mike Ozekhome

The Attorney-General of the Federation (AGF) has formally taken over the prosecution of an alleged fraud case involving senior lawyer Mike Ozekhome, previously initiated by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC).

According to official information, the AGF exercised constitutional powers to assume control of the matter in the interest of justice and effective case management. The takeover means that responsibility for handling the prosecution, including further investigations, filings, and court proceedings, will now rest with the office of the Attorney-General rather than the anti-corruption agency.

The case centres on allegations of financial impropriety linked to professional transactions, with investigators claiming that certain actions may have violated relevant laws. While the ICPC had earlier commenced proceedings based on its findings, the AGF’s intervention is intended to streamline the legal process and ensure uniform prosecutorial oversight.

Legal sources explained that the AGF’s decision does not amount to a determination of guilt or innocence, but rather reflects the constitutional role of the office as the chief law officer of the federation, empowered to take over, continue, or discontinue criminal proceedings instituted by other authorities where necessary.

Mike Ozekhome has consistently maintained his innocence, insisting that the transactions in question were lawful and professionally executed. His legal team has welcomed due process and expressed confidence that the matter will be resolved fairly once all facts are properly examined.

The development has generated discussion within legal and public circles, with observers noting its implications for prosecutorial discretion and inter-agency coordination in high-profile cases. As proceedings continue under the AGF’s supervision, the case is expected to progress through the courts in line with established legal procedures.
