A chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Okai, has described former Vice President Atiku Abubakar as a central and influential force within the emerging ADC coalition, highlighting his role in shaping opposition politics ahead of future elections.
Okai stated that Atiku’s political experience, national reach, and longstanding involvement in Nigeria’s democratic process have made him a key figure within the coalition arrangement. According to him, Atiku’s presence has helped to attract wider attention, strengthen internal consultations, and give direction to strategic discussions among coalition partners.
He explained that the ADC coalition is focused on building a broad-based political platform capable of challenging the ruling party through unity, inclusiveness, and shared ideals. In this regard, Okai noted that Atiku’s ability to engage with diverse political blocs, regional interests, and stakeholders across the country has been instrumental in fostering cooperation within the coalition.
Okai also dismissed claims that the coalition is centered on personal ambition, stressing that the alliance is driven by a collective desire to offer Nigerians an alternative leadership vision. He added that Atiku’s role is not about dominance but about contributing experience and guidance to help strengthen the coalition’s structure and credibility.
According to him, discussions within the ADC coalition remain ongoing, with emphasis on policy direction, internal democracy, and building a united front capable of addressing Nigeria’s economic, security, and governance challenges. He expressed confidence that the coalition will continue to grow as more political actors align with its objectives.
The remarks have added to ongoing political conversations about opposition realignment, with observers closely watching how influential figures like Atiku will shape the future direction of the ADC-led coalition in the build-up to forthcoming electoral contests.
