Residents of Yelewata community in Benue State have once again been thrown into panic following a fresh attack by suspected armed herders, leaving at least two people injured.
The incident reportedly occurred in the early hours when the assailants invaded parts of the community, firing gunshots and causing widespread fear among villagers. According to local sources, the attackers moved through residential areas and farmlands, forcing many residents to flee their homes to avoid being caught in the violence.
Two individuals sustained injuries during the attack and were quickly rushed to a nearby medical facility for treatment. While no deaths were confirmed, the incident has heightened anxiety among residents who say such attacks have become increasingly frequent.
Community members expressed frustration over the recurring nature of the violence, lamenting the destruction of crops and disruption of livelihoods. Farmers in the area noted that repeated invasions have made it difficult to access their farmlands, raising concerns about food security and economic survival.
Local leaders have called for urgent intervention by security agencies, urging authorities to deploy more personnel to the area to prevent further attacks. They emphasized the need for sustained security presence rather than temporary responses after incidents occur.
Security operatives were said to have been mobilized to the community following the attack, with efforts ongoing to track down those responsible and restore calm. Residents have been advised to remain vigilant and report any suspicious movements to authorities.
The latest incident adds to growing concerns over insecurity in parts of Benue State, with many calling for decisive and coordinated action to address the root causes and ensure lasting peace in affected communities.
