Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has called for unity, reconciliation, and collective commitment following his victory at the African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential primary election ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Speaking during his acceptance speech shortly after the announcement of the primary results, Atiku expressed gratitude to party delegates, supporters, and stakeholders for the confidence reposed in him. He described the outcome as not just a personal victory, but a triumph for democracy and the future of Nigeria.
The former presidential candidate pledged to work closely with all members of the party, including those who contested against him, stressing that the larger goal remains rescuing the country from economic hardship, insecurity, and political division.
According to him, Nigeria is currently facing serious challenges that require experienced leadership, national unity, and strategic economic reforms. He stated that millions of Nigerians are struggling with rising living costs, unemployment, insecurity, and declining public confidence in governance.
Atiku urged party members to put aside differences and focus on building a strong political movement capable of competing effectively in the next general elections. He noted that internal unity would be critical to the success of the party’s mission and electoral ambitions.
During the speech, he also promised to prioritize economic recovery, job creation, improved security, infrastructure development, and policies aimed at restoring investor confidence if elected president. He assured supporters that his administration would focus on inclusive governance and national development.
The event attracted party leaders, delegates, youth groups, women associations, and political supporters from different parts of the country, many of whom celebrated the outcome of the primary election. Chants, applause, and displays of solidarity reportedly filled the venue as supporters expressed optimism about the party’s chances in the 2027 elections.
Political observers say Atiku’s emergence is likely to reshape the opposition political landscape and intensify preparations ahead of the presidential race. Analysts believe his experience, political network, and national recognition could make the contest highly competitive in the coming months.
Meanwhile, some members of the party have called for reconciliation efforts to ensure that supporters of other aspirants remain committed to the party’s objectives moving forward.
As political activities continue to gather momentum nationwide, Atiku’s acceptance speech is already generating reactions across political circles, with many Nigerians closely monitoring developments ahead of the next election cycle.
