Armed Attackers Invade Sokoto Community, Kill Five Residents and Kidnap Several Women

A deadly attack by armed assailants has left at least five residents dead and several women missing following a raid on a community in Sokoto State, deepening concerns over the persistent security challenges facing rural communities in the North-West region.

Residents said the attackers stormed the community in the early hours, firing sporadically and causing panic as villagers fled to nearby bushes and safer locations. During the assault, five people were reportedly killed while several women were abducted and taken to an unknown destination by the gunmen. Preliminary accounts indicate that the attackers operated for several hours before retreating from the area.

Local leaders and community members described the incident as devastating, noting that many families have been displaced while efforts continue to determine the exact number of those abducted and missing following the attack. The community has appealed for urgent intervention from security agencies to prevent further violence and secure the release of the kidnapped victims.

Security personnel were reportedly deployed to the affected area following reports of the invasion, while search and rescue efforts have commenced in surrounding communities and forests where the attackers are believed to have moved after the operation. Authorities are also expected to intensify surveillance and security operations across vulnerable locations in the area.

The latest incident adds to a series of attacks that have affected communities in parts of Sokoto State and other areas of north-western Nigeria, where armed groups have continued to target villages, farmlands and travellers despite ongoing security operations in the region.

Community leaders have called for stronger security presence, improved intelligence gathering and sustained operations aimed at protecting rural settlements from future attacks.
