The Muslim Rights Concern (MURIC) has urged Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke to prepare for a peaceful transition of power, expressing confidence that a new administration could emerge after the next electoral process.
The organization stated that democratic governance is built on accountability, constitutional order, and the will of the people, emphasizing that political office is temporary and should be approached with a commitment to public service.
According to the group, political leaders should remain focused on fulfilling their responsibilities while also respecting the possibility of leadership changes through democratic elections. It noted that preparing for a smooth transition is an important aspect of strengthening Nigeria’s democratic institutions.
MURIC encouraged political stakeholders in the state to avoid inflammatory rhetoric and instead promote peaceful engagement, mutual respect, and issue-based politics. The group stressed that political competition should never undermine public peace or social cohesion.
The organization also appealed to supporters of all political parties to remain calm, obey the law, and reject any form of violence or intimidation before, during, and after the electoral process. It urged citizens to participate peacefully in democratic activities and allow the electoral process to determine the choice of leadership.
Furthermore, MURIC called on security agencies, electoral authorities, and other relevant institutions to remain impartial and ensure that all political actors operate within the framework of the law. It maintained that free, fair, and credible elections are essential to sustaining public confidence in democratic governance.
The group concluded by encouraging all political leaders in Osun State to place the interests of the people above partisan considerations and to work toward preserving peace, stability, and democratic values regardless of the outcome of future elections.
