The Federal High Court sitting in Abuja has ordered the remand of a man, identified as Sanusi Dankaka, at the Kuje Correctional Centre over allegations that he threatened to release nude photographs and videos of Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf.
The order was reportedly issued on Monday, October 26, 2026, by Justice Salim Ibrahim after the defendant was arraigned by the Department of State Services (DSS) on a two-count charge relating to alleged cybercrime offences.
Dankaka pleaded not guilty to the charges brought against him.
DSS Accuses Defendant of Threatening to Publish Alleged Private Images
According to the allegations contained in the charge, Dankaka allegedly used his Facebook page to claim that he possessed nude photographs and videos of Governor Yusuf and threatened to make the materials public.
The prosecution alleged that the defendant committed the offence in October 2026 in Jos North Local Government Area of Plateau State, alongside other individuals who have yet to be apprehended.
The DSS further alleged that the publication contained false information and was intended to cause annoyance, inconvenience, insult and injury to the Kano State governor.
The allegations remain unproven, and the defendant is entitled to the presumption of innocence until proven guilty by a court of competent jurisdiction.
Defendant Pleads Not Guilty to Two-Count Charge
The charge against Dankaka was filed on October 22, 2026, by the DSS.
During proceedings, the prosecution informed the court that it was prepared to proceed with the arraignment. The defendant’s counsel also indicated readiness for the hearing.
Following the reading of the charges, Dankaka denied both counts.
The prosecution subsequently requested a date for trial to enable it to present evidence in support of the allegations.
The DSS also asked the court to order the defendant’s remand at the Kuje Correctional Centre pending further proceedings. The defence counsel reportedly did not oppose the application.
Cybercrime Law Cited in the Case
The prosecution cited provisions of the Cybercrimes (Prohibition, Prevention, etc.) Act, 2015, as amended, in connection with the allegations.
The case centres on the alleged use of a social media platform to threaten the publication of purportedly private images of a serving state governor.
The court will be expected to examine the evidence presented by the prosecution and the defence during the trial before determining whether the allegations have been established.
Court Fixes December 7 for Trial
Following the proceedings, Justice Salim Ibrahim ordered that Dankaka be remanded at the Kuje Correctional Centre.
The court adjourned the case until December 7, 2026, for trial.
The next hearing is expected to provide an opportunity for the prosecution to begin presenting its case against the defendant.
The matter remains before the court, and the allegations against Dankaka have not yet been established through a judicial determination.
