Ejimakor Warns Nnamdi Kanu’s Safety at Risk in the North, Calls for Relocation

Aloy Ejimakor, a member of the legal team representing Nnamdi Kanu, has raised serious concerns over the safety of the detained separatist leader, warning that his life could be at risk if he remains in custody in the northern part of the country. He has therefore called for Kanu’s immediate relocation to a safer and more secure facility.

Ejimakor expressed worry that the current security environment, combined with heightened regional tensions and recent developments linked to international military claims, could expose Kanu to danger. According to him, threats to safety should not be ignored, especially in a case that already carries significant political and security sensitivities.

The lawyer stressed that regardless of the charges against Kanu, the government has a constitutional responsibility to guarantee his safety while in custody. He argued that detention should not place any individual in harm’s way and warned that failure to take preventive action could have grave consequences.

Ejimakor also noted that Kanu’s case attracts intense public attention both locally and internationally, making him a high-profile detainee who requires special protection. He said relocating him to a more secure and neutral location would reduce risks and demonstrate the government’s commitment to due process and human rights.

In his remarks, Ejimakor urged authorities to act swiftly and responsibly, emphasizing that the request for relocation is not an attempt to interfere with legal proceedings but a precautionary measure aimed at preserving life. He added that continued detention in an environment perceived as unsafe could further inflame tensions and provoke public unrest.

The call has sparked renewed debate among supporters and observers, with some echoing concerns about security and others insisting that the government must balance safety considerations with the rule of law. So far, authorities have not publicly responded to the relocation request.

Nnamdi Kanu remains in custody as legal proceedings continue, while discussions surrounding his safety, detention conditions, and broader implications for national stability remain ongoing.
