ADC Ward in FCT Announces Suspension of Senator Ireti Kingibe from African Democratic Congress (ADC) Ward Activities

Leaders of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in a ward within the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) have announced the suspension of Senator Ireti Kingibe from participating in ward activities, citing alleged actions considered inconsistent with the party’s internal guidelines and expectations for members.

The decision was reportedly reached during a ward meeting attended by party executives and members, where concerns were raised about the senator’s relationship with the local party structure. According to officials at the meeting, the suspension was intended to address what they described as a breakdown in communication and cooperation between the senator and the ward leadership.

Party representatives at the ward level explained that the move followed several complaints from members who alleged that the senator had not adequately engaged with grassroots party structures since assuming office. They also claimed that attempts to resolve the issues through dialogue had not produced the desired outcome, prompting the ward leadership to take disciplinary action.

The ward executives stated that the suspension would temporarily bar Senator Kingibe from participating in ward meetings, activities, and decision-making processes within that particular unit of the party while the matter is being reviewed. They emphasized that the step was taken to protect party unity and reinforce internal discipline.

However, the development has generated mixed reactions among party members and political observers within the FCT. While some members supported the decision, arguing that party rules must be respected by all members regardless of position, others questioned whether a ward structure possesses the authority to suspend a serving senator from the party.

Supporters of the senator have also argued that such disciplinary actions typically fall under the jurisdiction of higher party organs such as the local government, state, or national leadership. They maintained that any dispute between elected officials and party structures should be handled through broader consultation to avoid further internal divisions.

Senator Ireti Kingibe, who represents the Federal Capital Territory in the Nigerian Senate, has been a prominent political figure in the territory and has been associated with the African Democratic Congress since emerging as a key candidate of the party.

As of the time of the announcement, the senator had not publicly issued a detailed response regarding the suspension. Political watchers, however, expect the situation to attract attention from higher party authorities, who may be required to review the decision and determine the next steps.

The development highlights the ongoing internal dynamics within party structures at the grassroots level in the Nigeria, where disputes between elected representatives and local party leadership occasionally arise over political engagement, party loyalty, and organizational control. Party stakeholders are hopeful that dialogue and internal mechanisms will help resolve the issue in a way that preserves unity within the party. 🏛️
