Several passengers were reported injured on Monday following a train derailment along the rail corridor connecting Abuja and Kaduna, causing panic among travelers and disrupting movement on the busy route.
The incident occurred when one of the coaches of a passenger train traveling from Abuja to Kaduna suddenly left the tracks during the journey. Witnesses said the situation caused confusion inside the train as passengers struggled to understand what had happened while the train came to an abrupt halt.
According to passengers on board, several people sustained injuries during the derailment, mainly due to the sudden impact and the panic that followed. Some passengers reportedly fell from their seats, while others were hurt as luggage and other items inside the coaches were thrown around.
Emergency responders and railway officials were quickly alerted, and rescue efforts began shortly after the incident. Injured passengers were attended to by emergency teams, with some receiving first aid at the scene while others were taken to nearby medical facilities for further treatment.
Railway authorities later confirmed that the derailment involved part of the train but did not lead to fatalities. Officials said investigations had begun to determine the cause of the accident, including whether it was related to a mechanical fault, track conditions, or other operational factors.
Security personnel and railway workers were also deployed to the area to ensure the safety of passengers and to manage the situation while arrangements were made to assist stranded travelers.
The Abuja–Kaduna rail line remains one of the most frequently used rail routes in the country, providing a vital transport link between the Federal Capital Territory and northern parts of Nigeria. Many commuters prefer the train service due to its relative speed and safety compared to road travel.
Authorities assured the public that efforts were underway to restore normal operations on the rail line and to ensure that safety checks are carried out before trains resume full service along the route connecting Abuja and Kaduna.
