Veteran journalist and publisher Dele Momodu has launched a scathing attack on political commentators Reno Omokri and Femi Fani-Kayode, describing them as “two shameless friends” amid an ongoing exchange of political arguments.
Momodu’s remarks came in response to comments and positions taken by both men on recent national issues, which he strongly disagreed with. In a strongly worded statement, he accused Omokri and Fani-Kayode of inconsistency, alleging that their public opinions are often driven by personal interests rather than principled convictions.
He criticized what he described as a pattern of shifting loyalties and selective commentary, suggesting that both figures frequently change their stance depending on prevailing political circumstances. According to Momodu, such behavior undermines public trust and contributes to confusion within the political space.
The media entrepreneur further argued that public commentators have a responsibility to maintain credibility and uphold integrity in their engagements, especially given their influence on public opinion. He expressed disappointment that individuals with significant platforms would engage in rhetoric he considers misleading or self-serving.
In response, supporters of Omokri and Fani-Kayode have pushed back against Momodu’s comments, defending their preferred figures and questioning his motives. The exchange has since sparked wider debate across social and political circles, with many Nigerians weighing in on the credibility and conduct of prominent commentators.
The development highlights ongoing tensions among influential voices within Nigeria’s political discourse, where disagreements often play out publicly and attract significant attention. While no formal reconciliation has been indicated, the episode underscores the deeply divided nature of political commentary in the country.
