A major military operation in northeastern Nigeria has resulted in the recovery of 38 bodies following intense confrontations between troops and suspected insurgents in Borno State.
According to security sources, the operation was carried out in several identified strongholds where armed groups have been active in recent months. The offensive involved coordinated ground assaults backed by aerial surveillance and precision strikes aimed at dislodging the fighters from their hideouts.
Troops reportedly engaged the insurgents in prolonged gun battles, overpowering them after hours of exchange. The 38 bodies were recovered from different locations within the operation area, indicating the scale and intensity of the clashes. Weapons, ammunition, and other items believed to belong to the insurgents were also seized during the mission.
Military authorities stated that the operation is part of ongoing efforts to restore stability in the region and dismantle terrorist networks that have continued to threaten communities. They noted that several of the insurgents attempted to flee during the assault but were tracked and neutralized by advancing forces.
Residents in nearby communities reported hearing heavy gunfire and explosions during the operation, with many expressing relief over the military’s continued presence and action against the armed groups. Some locals, however, remain cautious, citing fears of possible reprisal attacks.
Security officials emphasized that troops will sustain the momentum of the offensive, with additional operations planned to target remaining pockets of insurgents. They also reassured the public of their commitment to protecting lives and property while working to ensure that displaced persons can safely return to their homes.
The development marks another significant push in the ongoing fight against insurgency in the region, as authorities continue to intensify efforts to bring lasting peace to Borno State and surrounding areas.
