Eight Killed in Renewed Bandit Attack in Plateau

At least eight people have been confirmed dead following a fresh attack by suspected bandits in a community in Plateau State, deepening concerns over the persistent insecurity in the region.

The attack reportedly occurred in the early hours of the day when armed assailants stormed the village, shooting sporadically and setting parts of the community ablaze. Residents, who were caught off guard, fled into nearby bushes and neighboring settlements to escape the violence.

Eyewitnesses said the attackers operated for several hours without immediate resistance, leaving a trail of destruction behind. Homes were burnt, properties destroyed, and several residents sustained injuries while trying to flee. Local sources indicated that the death toll could rise as some victims with severe injuries are receiving treatment in nearby medical facilities.

Community leaders expressed grief and frustration over the recurring attacks, calling for urgent intervention by security agencies. They lamented that despite previous incidents and repeated appeals, vulnerable communities continue to face threats from armed groups.

Security personnel were later deployed to the area to restore calm and prevent further violence. Authorities have assured residents that efforts are underway to track down the perpetrators and strengthen security presence across affected communities.

The latest incident adds to a growing list of violent attacks in parts of Plateau State, where clashes and banditry have led to significant loss of lives and displacement of residents. Many families have been forced to abandon their homes, seeking refuge in safer locations.

Residents are now calling for sustained security operations, improved intelligence gathering, and stronger collaboration between local communities and law enforcement agencies to prevent further tragedies.

As tension remains high, humanitarian concerns are also mounting, with affected families in need of urgent assistance, including shelter, food, and medical support.
