Omo-Agege Quits APC Days After Primary Election Defeat

Former Deputy Senate President, Ovie Omo-Agege, has resigned from the All Progressives Congress (APC) just days after losing the party’s senatorial primary election in Delta State ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The development has stirred fresh political conversations within Delta State and across the country, especially considering Omo-Agege’s long-standing influence in the APC and his role as one of the party’s most prominent leaders in the South-South region. Reports indicate that his resignation followed dissatisfaction over the outcome of the Delta Central senatorial primary, where he was defeated by incumbent Senator Ede Dafinone.

Sources close to the former lawmaker disclosed that he formally submitted his resignation from the APC shortly after the conclusion of the primaries. His exit is believed to have been triggered by growing internal disagreements and tensions within the party structure in Delta State.

Political observers say the move could reshape the political equation in Delta State ahead of the 2027 elections, especially given Omo-Agege’s support base and influence among party loyalists. His departure is also seen as part of the wider dissatisfaction reportedly affecting several APC members following the recently concluded primaries across different states.

Omo-Agege previously served as senator representing Delta Central and later emerged as Deputy Senate President during the 9th National Assembly. He also contested the 2023 Delta State governorship election under the APC platform, further cementing his prominence within the party structure.

Although details of his next political destination remain unclear, there are strong indications that consultations are ongoing with other political stakeholders regarding his future ahead of the 2027 elections.
