Political commentator and businessman Isaac Fayose has predicted a difficult outing for the ruling APC in the forthcoming Ekiti State governorship election following the massive reception accorded to the PDP governorship candidate during a recent campaign event in the state.
Fayose made the remarks after videos and images emerged showing large numbers of supporters turning out to welcome the PDP flag bearer in Ado-Ekiti and surrounding communities. The gathering attracted party loyalists, youth groups, market associations and other supporters who came out to demonstrate their backing for the opposition candidate.
Reacting to the development, Fayose expressed confidence that the impressive turnout reflected growing public support for the PDP ahead of the governorship poll. He argued that the size of the crowd signaled a shift in political sentiment and suggested that the ruling party could face a serious challenge at the ballot box.
According to him, the enthusiasm displayed by supporters showed that many residents were eager for political change. He maintained that the opposition party had gained momentum in the state and could capitalize on the growing excitement witnessed during the campaign activities.
The PDP candidate, while addressing supporters, reportedly pledged to prioritize good governance, economic development, job creation and improved social welfare if elected. Party leaders at the event also called on voters to remain united and actively participate in the electoral process.
However, political observers note that campaign crowd sizes do not always translate directly into election victories. With the governorship election drawing closer, both major parties are expected to intensify their campaigns across the state’s local government areas in a bid to secure the support of voters.
The Ekiti governorship contest is shaping up to be one of the most closely watched elections in the country, with the APC seeking to retain power while the PDP aims to stage a return to Government House. As political activities gather momentum, stakeholders have continued to urge candidates and supporters to conduct their campaigns peacefully and in accordance with electoral laws.
