A prominent opposition leader, Senator Seriake Dickson, has expressed confidence that the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and President Bola Tinubu will face a significant defeat in the 2027 general elections if the electoral process is conducted in a free, fair, and transparent manner.
Speaking during a political engagement focused on Nigeria’s democratic future, Dickson argued that growing public dissatisfaction over economic hardship, insecurity, unemployment, and the rising cost of living has weakened public confidence in the current administration. He maintained that many Nigerians are eager for a new direction and would use the ballot box to demand change.
According to him, the opposition is working towards building a united political platform capable of presenting a credible alternative to the electorate. He stressed that cooperation among opposition parties and political stakeholders remains essential to strengthening democracy and ensuring that voters are presented with meaningful choices in 2027.
Dickson further stated that his confidence is based on what he described as increasing public frustration with governance and the desire for leadership that prioritizes economic recovery, national unity, security, and institutional reforms. He urged opposition supporters to remain peaceful, law-abiding, and committed to democratic principles as preparations for the next general election continue.
He also called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), security agencies, civil society organisations, and other election stakeholders to ensure that future elections reflect the genuine will of the Nigerian people. According to him, credible elections remain the foundation of a stable democracy and public trust in government.
While expressing optimism about the opposition’s chances in 2027, Dickson emphasized that the ultimate decision rests with Nigerian voters, urging citizens to actively participate in the democratic process and hold elected leaders accountable through peaceful and lawful means.
