Medical Specialist Arrested in Enugu After Releasing Independent Health Report on Nnamdi Kanu

Emeritus Professor Martin Aghaji, a medical expert who prepared an independent assessment of the health condition of detained IPOB leader Nnamdi Kanu, has reportedly been arrested in Enugu by security operatives. The arrest is said to have taken place at his residence and has generated widespread reactions from lawyers, civil society groups, and supporters of the detained separatist leader.

Professor Aghaji had previously examined Kanu and produced an independent medical report outlining concerns about his health. According to those familiar with the report, the medical assessment recommended that Kanu receive specialized treatment outside his place of detention because of the seriousness of his medical condition. His findings differed from the position presented by government medical officials during the legal proceedings.

Following the reported arrest, legal representatives and supporters of Kanu described the development as disturbing and called for an explanation from the relevant authorities. They argued that medical professionals should be allowed to carry out their duties independently without fear of intimidation or interference. They also appealed for Professor Aghaji’s immediate release and urged that due process be followed.

As of the time of reporting, no official statement had been issued publicly explaining the reasons for the professor’s detention. The development has further intensified public interest in Kanu’s ongoing legal case and renewed discussions about access to independent medical care for detainees and the protection of medical practitioners carrying out professional responsibilities.
