ADC Primary: Amaechi Withdraws Suit Against Atiku

Former Rivers State Governor and presidential aspirant of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Rotimi Amaechi, has formally withdrawn the legal action he filed challenging the outcome of the party’s presidential primary that produced former Vice President Atiku Abubakar as the party’s flag bearer for the 2027 presidential election.

Amaechi had initially approached the court following disagreements over the conduct of the primary election, alleging irregularities and voter disenfranchisement in parts of the country during the exercise. He had questioned the credibility of the process and sought judicial intervention regarding the outcome of the contest.

However, during proceedings at the Federal High Court in Abuja, counsel representing Amaechi informed the court of the decision to discontinue the suit. Following the application for withdrawal, the court struck out the matter, effectively bringing the legal challenge to an end.

Political observers believe the move may signal a fresh effort by key stakeholders within the ADC to strengthen internal unity and avoid prolonged disputes ahead of preparations for the 2027 general elections. The withdrawal is also expected to ease tensions among supporters of both political figures and create room for reconciliation within the party.

The ADC presidential primary had witnessed a keen contest involving Atiku Abubakar, Rotimi Amaechi and economist Mohammed Hayatu-Deen, with the exercise generating debates and disagreements in several states over the collation of results and the conduct of voting.

With the court case now withdrawn, attention is expected to shift towards party consolidation, campaign preparations and efforts to present a united front ahead of the next electoral cycle. Party leaders and supporters are hopeful that reconciliation among aggrieved members will strengthen the party’s chances in future political contests.

I can monitor developments within the ADC and notify you if there are significant updates regarding the party’s presidential ticket or coalition arrangements. Want me to set that up?
