The political atmosphere in Osun State has intensified as the All Progressives Congress (APC) moved into the final stage of its campaign ahead of the state governorship election scheduled for Saturday, August 15, 2026.
The APC’s final mobilisation in Osogbo attracted several senior party figures, including Senate President Godswill Akpabio, APC National Chairman Nentawe Yilwatda, and a large number of serving APC governors. Among those identified at the gathering were Hope Uzodimma of Imo State, Lucky Aiyedatiwa of Ondo State, Uba Sani of Kaduna State, Monday Okpebholo of Edo State and Ahmed Usman Ododo of Kogi State.
The high-profile mobilisation was organised in support of the APC governorship candidate, Bola Oyebamiji, as the party sought to consolidate its support base across the state’s 30 local government areas.
The presence of the APC leadership and governors was seen as a major demonstration of the party’s political machinery. Party leaders used the occasion to rally supporters and strengthen their grassroots mobilisation ahead of the election.
Former Osun State Governor and current Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Gboyega Oyetola, welcomed the visiting APC leaders to the state. His message highlighted the significance of the gathering and expressed hope for a peaceful and successful campaign event.
Davido reacts
The arrival of the APC heavyweights also attracted the attention of Nigerian Afrobeats superstar David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, who has been openly involved in the political conversation surrounding the Osun election.
Davido reacted to a post concerning the arrival of the APC leaders and governors in Osogbo. Rather than interpreting the large gathering as an indication that the APC would win, the singer used a biblical reference to mock the party’s show of political strength.
In his reaction, Davido suggested that even assembling a large group of prominent political figures would not change his expectation of the election’s outcome. He maintained his confidence that the APC would not defeat the incumbent camp.
Davido’s intervention has added another dimension to an already highly charged political contest, particularly because of his close family relationship with Governor Ademola Adeleke and his previous public involvement in Adeleke’s political campaigns.
APC seeks to overturn previous result
The APC’s mobilisation comes as the party attempts to regain control of Osun State. The party’s candidate, Bola Oyebamiji, has been campaigning on a platform centred on development and a change in the state’s political direction.
The party’s leadership has expressed confidence that the combination of its grassroots structures, national leadership and support from serving governors can translate into votes for Oyebamiji on election day.
The mega rally was therefore not simply a campaign event but also an opportunity for the APC to demonstrate organisational strength and reassure supporters ahead of the poll.
Election enters decisive stage
With the campaign period reaching its deadline on August 13, attention has shifted almost entirely to voter mobilisation, election-day preparedness and the ability of the competing political camps to turn campaign support into actual votes.
The election is expected to be closely watched because of the political significance of Osun and the intense competition among the major contenders.
For the APC, the appearance of Akpabio, several governors and other senior party officials represents a final push for Oyebamiji. For Davido and supporters of the incumbent camp, however, the size of the APC delegation does not necessarily translate into electoral victory.
Ultimately, the outcome will be determined by voters across Osun State when they cast their ballots on August 15, 2026.
