Youths within the Oyo State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) have called on Governor Seyi Makinde to begin preparing his handover documents ahead of the 2027 general elections. The group made the call during a strategic meeting held in Ibadan, where members reviewed the state’s political atmosphere and outlined their priorities for the next election cycle.
Speaking after the meeting, the youth leaders stated that their message to the governor was not borne out of hostility but rooted in their belief that Oyo State is ready for a new political direction. According to them, the APC has been reorganizing at the grassroots level and strengthening its internal structures to ensure it is well-positioned to reclaim power in 2027.
They argued that residents of the state deserve improved governance and faster development, which they believe their party is capable of delivering. The youths also highlighted what they described as gaps in the current administration’s handling of infrastructure, job creation, and economic management, insisting that these issues would form major talking points as the 2027 elections draw closer.
The group emphasized that their early mobilization efforts were meant to galvanize support, especially among young voters who have become increasingly influential in recent elections. They also revealed that consultations are ongoing with senior party leaders to ensure a united front before the APC begins its formal candidate selection process.
Additionally, the youths urged the state government to remain transparent and accountable as the end of the current administration approaches. They insisted that early preparation of handover notes is a standard governance practice that ensures continuity and allows incoming leadership to take off smoothly.
While the governor has not publicly responded to the message, political observers in Oyo State note that the APC’s renewed confidence signals the beginning of intense political activities that will shape the state’s 2027 electoral landscape.
As both ruling and opposition parties begin to consolidate their strategies, residents are expecting a competitive political season marked by debates on governance performance, leadership vision, and the future direction of Oyo State.
