Primate Elijah Ayodele has issued a strong warning to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, claiming that former United States president Donald Trump harbours intentions that could negatively affect Tinubu’s leadership and political standing.
Speaking during a public address, the cleric alleged that powerful international interests are positioning themselves in ways that may constrain Nigeria’s sovereignty and place pressure on the current administration. He described the situation as one in which external influence could limit the president’s freedom to govern independently, warning that such developments may not be in Nigeria’s best interest.
Primate Ayodele cautioned President Tinubu to be vigilant in his diplomatic engagements, particularly with global powers, and to prioritize national interest above foreign approval. He stressed that Nigeria must avoid being drawn into political or military arrangements that could weaken its internal stability or decision-making autonomy.
According to the cleric, the president should rely more on internal counsel, national intelligence, and the will of the Nigerian people rather than external assurances. He warned that political traps can sometimes be presented as partnerships, urging the government to carefully assess every international agreement and alliance.
Ayodele also advised Tinubu to strengthen internal unity, address economic hardship, and focus on security challenges, noting that domestic instability could make the country more vulnerable to foreign manipulation. He emphasized the importance of prayer, wisdom, and decisive leadership in navigating complex global politics.
He concluded by urging Nigerians to remain alert and supportive of national sovereignty, stressing that the country’s leadership must remain firmly guided by the interests of its citizens rather than foreign political agendas.
