Ali Ndume has called on the Nigerian government to take stronger and more coordinated actions to decisively defeat terrorist groups following renewed attacks in parts of Borno State.
The senator, who represents the Borno South Senatorial District in the Nigerian Senate, expressed deep concern over the continued insecurity in several communities across the state. He noted that persistent attacks on villages and military positions highlight the urgent need for a comprehensive strategy to end terrorism in the region.
According to Ndume, the government must significantly strengthen military operations by providing the armed forces with improved equipment, intelligence support, and adequate logistics needed to combat insurgents effectively. He stressed that security personnel on the frontlines require modern technology, surveillance systems, and sufficient operational resources to respond swiftly to threats.
The lawmaker also emphasized the importance of better coordination among Nigeria’s various security agencies. He explained that collaboration between the military, intelligence services, police, and local security networks is essential to track and dismantle terrorist groups operating in remote areas.
Ndume further urged the federal government to enhance intelligence gathering and strengthen community-based security initiatives. He noted that local communities often possess valuable information about suspicious activities and movements of insurgents, adding that closer cooperation between residents and security forces could improve early warning systems.
In addition to military measures, the senator highlighted the need for humanitarian and development interventions in affected communities. He explained that rebuilding infrastructure, supporting displaced families, and restoring economic activities are critical steps toward stabilizing areas that have experienced repeated attacks.
Ndume also called for sustained government commitment to addressing the root causes of insecurity, including poverty, unemployment, and lack of educational opportunities in some parts of the region. According to him, long-term stability will require both security operations and socio-economic development.
While acknowledging the efforts already made by Nigerian security forces in combating insurgency, the senator insisted that more decisive actions are necessary to permanently dismantle terrorist networks and restore lasting peace to Borno and the wider northeastern region.
He concluded by urging the government to prioritize the safety of citizens and ensure that communities affected by the violence receive the protection and support needed to rebuild their lives.
