Eid-el-Kabir: Muhammadu Sa’ad Abubakar Urges Muslims to Pray for Nigeria’s Leaders Ahead of 2027 Polls

The Sultan of Sokoto, Muhammadu Sa’ad Abubakar, has called on Muslims across Nigeria to use the occasion of Eid-el-Kabir to offer sincere prayers for the nation’s leaders and the peaceful conduct of the 2027 general elections.

Speaking during preparations for the Islamic celebration, the revered traditional ruler urged citizens to embrace unity, peace, and tolerance despite the country’s political and economic challenges. He stressed that national stability can only be achieved when leaders and citizens work together with sincerity and fear of God.

The Sultan appealed to Nigerians to avoid divisive comments, hate speeches, and actions capable of creating tension ahead of the elections. According to him, the period leading to the 2027 polls should be marked by dialogue, understanding, and prayers for divine guidance for those in positions of authority.

He also encouraged political actors to place the interest of the nation above personal ambition, noting that leadership should be centered on service, justice, and accountability. He warned against violence and urged youths not to allow themselves to be used for political unrest or electoral misconduct.

The Islamic leader further advised Muslims to reflect on the lessons of sacrifice, obedience, and faith associated with Eid-el-Kabir. He said the celebration should inspire compassion for the less privileged and strengthen national unity among people of different ethnic and religious backgrounds.

The Sultan concluded by praying for peace, security, economic progress, and a successful democratic process in Nigeria as preparations for the next general elections gradually gather momentum.
