Babcock University Drags Carter Efe to Court Over Alleged Forged Certificate

The management of Babcock University has announced that it is taking legal action following the circulation of an alleged forged academic certificate linked to Nigerian content creator Carter Efe, whose real name is Oderhohwo Joseph Efe. The institution described the document as fake, unauthorized, and not issued through any of its official academic processes.

In a public statement, the university explained that the document, which circulated widely on social media, falsely claimed to be an honorary certificate recognizing Carter Efe for a “First Class Upper” degree in Biochemistry. According to the institution, no such certificate was issued, and the classification “First Class Upper” does not exist within its academic system. The university emphasized that its recognized academic distinction is “First Class Honours,” awarded only through official degree certificates and transcripts issued by the Office of the Registrar.

The university further pointed out several inconsistencies in the document, including references to a purported “Babcock University Biochemistry Computer Club,” which it said does not exist within the institution. Management noted that academic departments and student clubs have no authority to issue degrees, honorary awards, or official academic credentials.

Babcock University warned employers, educational institutions, government agencies, professional bodies, and members of the public not to rely on the disputed document or any similar certificates presented outside its established verification procedures. It advised organizations to verify all academic credentials directly through the Office of the Registrar before accepting them for employment, admission, promotion, or any official purpose.

The institution also stated that individuals found to have produced, circulated, presented, or used forged academic documents could face investigation and prosecution under applicable laws relating to forgery, fraud, and falsification of academic records. It added that it intends to pursue all available civil and criminal legal remedies against anyone responsible for the unauthorized use of its name, logo, seal, or academic credentials.

As of now, no court has determined liability, and the allegations remain subject to legal processes. Neither Carter Efe nor his representatives had publicly responded to the university’s legal action at the time of the university’s announcement, according to available reports.
