Senate President Godswill Akpabio has called on Nigerians to remain hopeful and committed to the progress of the country as Nigeria marks its Independence Day.
Akpabio made the appeal in a message to Nigerians in commemoration of October 1, a date that marks Nigeria’s independence and provides an opportunity to reflect on the country’s journey, achievements and challenges.
The Senate President urged citizens to continue believing in Nigeria despite the difficulties confronting the nation. He emphasised the importance of national unity, patriotism and collective responsibility in building a stronger and more prosperous country.
According to Akpabio, Nigeria’s development requires the contributions of citizens across different regions, ethnic groups, religious backgrounds and professional sectors. He encouraged Nigerians to put the interests of the nation above divisions and work together toward sustainable development.
He also acknowledged that the country continues to face economic and social challenges, noting that such difficulties should not extinguish citizens’ confidence in Nigeria’s future.
Akpabio urged Nigerians to remain patient and resilient while supporting efforts aimed at improving the economy, strengthening institutions and creating better opportunities for citizens.
He further stressed the importance of peace and stability to national development, calling on Nigerians to reject actions capable of deepening divisions or undermining the unity of the country.
The Senate President said the responsibility of building Nigeria cannot be left solely to government institutions. He maintained that citizens, political leaders, businesses, civil society organisations, traditional institutions and other stakeholders all have important roles to play.
He encouraged Nigerians to continue contributing positively to their communities and supporting initiatives that promote economic growth, social development and national cohesion.
As the country celebrates another Independence Day, Akpabio’s message focuses on the need for Nigerians to preserve hope and maintain confidence in the nation’s capacity to overcome its challenges.
He called on citizens to use the occasion not only to celebrate Nigeria’s independence but also to reflect on the responsibilities that come with nation-building.
Akpabio reaffirmed the importance of unity, patriotism and collective action, urging Nigerians to remain committed to the vision of a peaceful, prosperous and stronger Nigeria.
He wished Nigerians a peaceful Independence Day celebration and expressed optimism about the country’s future.
