The Osun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has raised concerns over reported cases of extra-judicial killings and violent attacks in parts of the state, calling on the government and security agencies to take urgent steps to protect residents.
The party expressed its concern in a statement issued on Saturday by its Director of Media and Information, Kola Olabisi. According to the APC, the reported incidents have continued to generate fear among residents and have raised questions about the security of lives and property in the state.
The party said it had expected the conclusion of the August 15, 2026 governorship election to ease political tensions and reduce reports of violence. However, it argued that reports of violent incidents have continued after the election.
The APC specifically referred to a reported attack around the Oke-Baale area, near Ilesa Garage in Osogbo, where two people were reportedly killed on Friday. The party alleged that the victims were attacked by unidentified hoodlums armed with guns, machetes, knives and other weapons.
The party also identified one of the deceased as Small Rugged and the other as Seyi Osha. It further stated that several other people were injured during the incident.
The APC described the reported killings as a serious security concern and urged the relevant authorities to investigate the circumstances surrounding the deaths and bring anyone found responsible to justice.
The party argued that the protection of lives and property is a fundamental responsibility of government and security institutions. It therefore called on the administration of Governor Ademola Adeleke to strengthen security measures across the state and ensure that residents can go about their daily activities without fear.
The APC also appealed to the Nigeria Police Force and other security agencies to intensify surveillance, investigations and preventive measures in areas considered vulnerable to criminal attacks.
According to the party, repeated reports of violent deaths could negatively affect public confidence and create fear among residents, visitors and people intending to conduct business in the state.
The APC stressed that allegations of criminal conduct should be properly investigated through due process, rather than allowing individuals or groups to take the law into their own hands.
The party further urged security agencies to identify the perpetrators of the reported attacks, establish their motives and prosecute suspects in accordance with the law where sufficient evidence exists.
The allegations made by the APC remain claims by the political party, and responsibility for the reported killings would need to be established through investigation by the appropriate authorities.
The party’s call comes amid broader concerns over political and security-related violence reported in Osun during the months surrounding the 2026 governorship election. Various political actors have made competing allegations concerning violence in the state, underscoring the need for impartial investigations and accountability.
The APC concluded by urging residents to remain vigilant and called on government and security authorities to prioritise the safety of citizens and the preservation of public order across Osun State.
