20 APC Governors Pick Peter Mbah as New PGF Chairman Following Uzodinma’s Exit

Governors elected on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) have reportedly chosen Enugu State Governor, Peter Mbah, as the new Chairman of the Progressive Governors Forum (PGF), following the removal of Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodinma, from the position.

The decision was said to have emerged after a closed-door meeting involving about 20 APC governors, where discussions centered on the future direction of the forum and the need for stronger internal coordination ahead of the 2027 political cycle.

Sources within the party indicated that concerns had been mounting over the leadership style and internal management of the forum under Uzodinma, prompting influential stakeholders to push for a change. The governors were said to have agreed that a new chairman was necessary to strengthen unity among APC-controlled states and improve strategic engagement within the ruling party.

Peter Mbah’s emergence is believed to have gained support due to his administrative approach, growing political influence, and perceived ability to foster cooperation among governors across different regions of the country.

Although party leaders have yet to issue a detailed official statement on the development, insiders disclosed that the transition was concluded after extensive consultations among key figures within the APC.

Political observers believe the change in leadership could reshape alliances within the ruling party as preparations gradually begin ahead of future national elections. Analysts also see the move as part of broader efforts by APC stakeholders to reposition the governors’ forum as a stronger political force within the party structure.

Supporters of Mbah have described his selection as a sign of confidence in his leadership capacity, while some loyalists of Uzodinma reportedly expressed disappointment over the sudden change.

The Progressive Governors Forum serves as a strategic platform for governors elected under the APC to coordinate policies, strengthen party unity, and advance common political interests across the country.
