A group of protesters gathered outside the Federal High Court in Abuja on Tuesday, calling for the immediate release of activist and former presidential candidate, Omoyele Sowore.
The demonstrators arrived at the court premises carrying placards with various inscriptions demanding justice, respect for constitutional rights, and an end to what they described as prolonged legal harassment. Chants of “Free Sowore Now” echoed around the courthouse as the protesters urged the authorities to grant him his freedom without further delay.
Security personnel were deployed around the court complex to maintain law and order and ensure that proceedings within the premises continued without disruption. Despite the heightened security presence, the protest remained largely peaceful, with participants conducting themselves in an orderly manner.
Some of the demonstrators argued that every Nigerian is entitled to a fair and timely judicial process, expressing hope that the court would handle the matter in accordance with the law. They also appealed to relevant institutions to uphold the rule of law and protect the rights guaranteed under the Constitution.
Legal practitioners and observers present at the court noted that the case continues to attract significant public attention because of Sowore’s prominence in civic and political advocacy. They emphasized the importance of allowing the judicial process to proceed independently while ensuring that the rights of all parties are respected.
As proceedings continued inside the courtroom, supporters maintained their presence outside, insisting that their demonstration was peaceful and aimed at drawing attention to their demand for Sowore’s release. Authorities had not issued any immediate statement on the protest at the time of filing this report.
