2027: Wike’s Community Backs Fubara for Second Term

Prominent leaders and stakeholders from the Ikwerre ethnic nationality, the ancestral community of former Rivers State governor and current Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, have openly declared their support for Governor Siminalayi Fubara’s re-election bid ahead of the 2027 governorship election in Rivers State.

The endorsement was made during a well-attended meeting of Ikwerre elders, youth leaders, women groups, and political stakeholders drawn from the four Ikwerre local government areas. At the gathering, speakers praised Governor Fubara’s leadership style, describing it as people-centered, inclusive, and focused on peace, stability, and development.

Community leaders said their decision was based on what they described as Fubara’s commitment to good governance, infrastructural development, and efforts to unite Rivers people despite ongoing political tensions in the state. They noted that the governor has maintained a calm and measured approach to leadership, prioritizing the welfare of citizens over political disputes.

According to the group, Governor Fubara has demonstrated respect for traditional institutions, promoted youth engagement, and supported economic activities across communities, including Ikwerreland. They stressed that their backing was not imposed by any individual but was the outcome of consultations and collective agreement among stakeholders.

The leaders also emphasized that supporting Fubara for a second term aligns with their desire for continuity and stability in governance. They warned against actions or rhetoric that could destabilize the state as the 2027 election approaches, urging political actors to place the interest of Rivers State above personal ambitions.

Youth representatives at the meeting expressed confidence in the governor’s leadership, citing ongoing projects and policies aimed at job creation, social inclusion, and peaceful coexistence. Women leaders similarly commended the administration for increased attention to social welfare and community development.

In response, messages of appreciation were conveyed to the Ikwerre people on behalf of Governor Fubara, thanking them for the endorsement and reaffirming the governor’s commitment to serving all residents of Rivers State without discrimination. The governor was said to remain focused on delivering dividends of democracy and strengthening unity across the state as his administration continues.

The endorsement is seen as a significant political signal ahead of 2027, given the historical influence of Ikwerre leaders in Rivers State politics and their close association with former governor Nyesom Wike.
