Former Kano State governor and national leader of the New Nigeria Peoples Party, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, has expressed disappointment over what he described as a lack of recognition despite his significant political contribution to the electoral victories of former President Muhammadu Buhari.
Speaking during a political gathering, Kwankwaso stated that he played a major role in mobilizing support for Buhari, particularly in Kano State and across parts of Northern Nigeria. According to him, the political structure under his influence delivered close to two million votes during the presidential election, yet he and his supporters were allegedly sidelined afterward.
The former governor said many members of his political movement expected stronger collaboration and inclusion in the administration after the election victory. He noted that despite the enormous support they provided, they did not receive the level of appreciation or political recognition they believed they deserved.
Kwankwaso further explained that the experience shaped several political decisions he later made, including distancing himself from certain alliances and strengthening his independent political structure. He stressed that loyalty in politics should be rewarded with fairness, mutual respect, and inclusion.
The NNPP leader also used the occasion to encourage young politicians and supporters to remain committed to grassroots mobilization, insisting that political influence should not be underestimated. He maintained that the strength of any political movement lies in the people and not merely in political offices.
Political observers believe the remarks may further reignite conversations about past alliances within the ruling political establishment and the growing realignments ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Kwankwaso remains one of the influential political figures in Northern Nigeria, with his Kwankwasiyya movement continuing to maintain strong grassroots presence across several states.
