Minister of Works, David Umahi, has declared that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu represents the kind of leadership and inclusion the South-East region has long desired, describing ongoing federal projects in the region as evidence of renewed attention to the people.
Umahi made the remarks while addressing political stakeholders and community leaders during an inspection of major road and infrastructure projects across parts of the South-East. According to him, the current administration has shown greater commitment to addressing long-standing concerns about marginalisation through visible development and strategic appointments.
The former Ebonyi State governor pointed to ongoing reconstruction and rehabilitation of federal highways, including major roads linking commercial and industrial cities in the region. He said projects such as the Second Niger Bridge access roads, Enugu-Onitsha Expressway, Owerri-Aba Road, and other critical transport corridors are transforming economic activities and improving connectivity in the South-East.
Umahi stated that many of the roads had remained abandoned for years before the intervention of the present administration, adding that the renewed infrastructure drive has restored confidence among residents and investors. He argued that development, inclusion, and federal presence are more important to the people than political rhetoric.
The minister further urged leaders and residents of the South-East to support national unity and embrace constructive political engagement. He maintained that the region stands to gain more through collaboration and strategic participation in governance rather than division and hostility.
He also praised Tinubu’s administration for continuing inherited projects while initiating new ones across different parts of the country. According to Umahi, the government’s investments in roads, bridges, security infrastructure, and economic reforms are signs of a broader effort to stabilise the nation and improve living conditions.
Umahi expressed confidence that the South-East would continue to benefit from ongoing federal projects, insisting that the region is witnessing one of its most significant periods of infrastructural development in recent years.
