Aisha Yesufu Clarifies Relationship With Peter Obi, Describes Him as Her Principal

Human rights activist and political commentator Aisha Yesufu has clarified her relationship with former presidential candidate Peter Obi, stating that he is not her political godfather but someone she regards as her principal.

Yesufu made the clarification while responding to comments and public reactions regarding her continued support and association with Obi. According to her, her political stance and support are based on shared values, leadership principles, and her belief in accountability and good governance rather than political patronage.

She emphasized that she remains an independent-minded activist who speaks based on conviction and national interest, insisting that her support for Obi should not be interpreted as blind loyalty or political dependency. Yesufu noted that she has consistently maintained her voice on national issues regardless of the individuals involved.

The activist explained that referring to Obi as her principal reflects respect for leadership and shared political objectives rather than any form of godfather relationship. She added that the culture of political godfatherism has negatively affected governance in Nigeria and should not be confused with issue-based political support.

Her comments have continued to generate reactions across political circles and social media platforms, with supporters and critics debating the nature of political alliances and loyalty in the country’s political environment.

Yesufu has remained one of the outspoken voices in Nigeria’s civic and political space, often advocating for transparency, electoral reforms, accountability, and citizen participation in governance.
