
Fresh violence has again shaken parts of Benue State following an attack by suspected armed gunmen that claimed the lives of four people and left at least 10 others injured.
The attackers were reported to have stormed a community, firing indiscriminately and causing residents to flee for safety. The incident created panic as families abandoned their homes while others sought refuge in nearby areas to escape the violence.
Local sources said the victims included residents who were caught off guard during the assault. Those injured sustained varying degrees of wounds and were rushed to nearby medical facilities, where they are receiving treatment.
Security personnel were later deployed to the affected community to restore calm and prevent further attacks. Authorities have also begun efforts to track down those responsible for the incident, while increasing patrols in surrounding areas.
Community leaders expressed deep concern over the recurring insecurity, calling on both the federal and state governments to strengthen security operations and provide better protection for vulnerable communities. They also appealed for humanitarian assistance for families displaced by the attack.
