The presidential candidate of the Labour Party in the 2023 general election, Peter Obi, has strongly criticized President Bola Ahmed Tinubu over the recent abductions reported in Oyo and Borno States, accusing the administration of failing to adequately protect citizens.
Obi expressed concern over the worsening security situation, describing the recurring incidents of kidnapping and violent attacks as deeply troubling. He argued that the continued loss of lives and repeated abductions across different parts of the country reflect serious shortcomings in the nation’s security architecture.
According to him, the federal government must demonstrate greater urgency and compassion in responding to the plight of victims and their families. He maintained that Nigerians expect decisive leadership during periods of national distress and called for stronger measures to tackle insecurity.
Obi further stated that every attack on innocent citizens weakens public confidence in government and underscores the need for improved intelligence gathering, rapid security response, and better coordination among security agencies. He stressed that protecting lives and property should remain the highest priority of any administration.
The former presidential candidate also urged security agencies to intensify efforts to rescue those abducted and ensure that those responsible for the attacks are identified, arrested, and brought to justice. He emphasized that communities affected by insecurity deserve immediate support and sustained protection to prevent future incidents.
He called on leaders at all levels to put aside political differences and work together to confront the country’s security challenges, noting that restoring public confidence requires concrete action rather than promises.
As security operations continue in the affected areas, many Nigerians have renewed calls for stronger strategies to combat kidnapping, terrorism, and other violent crimes, while hoping for the safe return of those still in captivity.
