President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved an upward review of salaries for personnel of the Nigerian Armed Forces as part of the Federal Government’s ongoing efforts to improve the welfare of military officers and strengthen national security.
The approval is aimed at enhancing the morale of troops serving across the country, particularly those engaged in counter-insurgency operations, anti-banditry missions, and other security assignments. The salary adjustment is also expected to provide better financial support for military personnel and their families while recognising the sacrifices they make in protecting Nigeria’s territorial integrity.
In addition to the salary increase, the Federal Government reaffirmed its commitment to improving the overall welfare of members of the Armed Forces through enhanced operational support, improved accommodation, modern equipment, and expanded investment in military infrastructure.
Government officials said the decision forms part of broader reforms designed to strengthen the country’s security architecture by motivating personnel, improving operational efficiency, and boosting recruitment and retention within the military. They noted that better welfare packages would encourage greater dedication and professionalism among service members.
Military personnel and stakeholders have welcomed the development, describing it as a positive step toward addressing long-standing welfare concerns. Many expressed hope that the implementation of the new salary structure, alongside other welfare initiatives, will further improve the living conditions of service members and reinforce the Armed Forces’ capacity to tackle the nation’s security challenges.
