Former Kogi West Senator Dino Melaye has stirred political debate after issuing a stern warning ahead of the 2027 general election, saying that no individual should assume they are guaranteed to remain in power until the next polls.
Speaking during a political engagement, Melaye referenced the late former Head of State, General Sani Abacha, to illustrate what he described as the uncertainty of life and the sovereignty of God over human affairs. According to him, political leaders should avoid believing that electoral victory or continued authority is guaranteed.
Melaye remarked that God can decide the fate of any leader at any time, recalling how Abacha died unexpectedly while serving as Nigeria’s military ruler. He argued that the incident serves as a reminder that ultimate power belongs to God and not to any political officeholder.
