The President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio, has firmly dismissed circulating reports alleging that he collapsed and was subsequently hospitalised outside the country, describing the claims as false and misleading.
In a statement released by his media team, Akpabio clarified that he remains in good health and has continued to carry out his official duties without interruption. He described the reports as unfounded rumours intended to create unnecessary anxiety among the public and distract from legislative business.
According to the statement, the Senate President has not been admitted to any medical facility abroad and did not experience any health emergency as alleged. His aides stressed that he has been actively engaged in meetings, consultations, and official assignments, both within and outside Abuja, in line with his responsibilities.
Akpabio also urged members of the public to rely on verified information from credible and official sources rather than unsubstantiated claims circulating on social media and informal platforms. He warned that the spread of false health reports about public officials could undermine public confidence and promote misinformation.
Supporters and colleagues within the National Assembly echoed the Senate President’s position, describing the reports as reckless and irresponsible. Some lawmakers called for greater restraint and accountability in public discourse, especially when it concerns sensitive issues such as health and personal wellbeing.
The Senate President reaffirmed his commitment to legislative duties, emphasizing that his focus remains on advancing key reforms, strengthening democratic institutions, and supporting policies aimed at national development.
As reactions continue to trail the clarification, Akpabio’s office reiterated that no further response would be given to what it termed “baseless speculation,” encouraging Nigerians to disregard the claims entirely.
