The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has appointed former Cross River State governor, Liyel Imoke, to head its presidential primary committees ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The party announced that the move forms part of its preparations to strengthen internal structures and ensure a transparent process for selecting its presidential candidate. According to party officials, the committees under Imoke’s leadership will oversee critical aspects of the primary process, including planning, coordination, screening procedures, and electoral guidelines.
ADC leaders described Imoke as an experienced political figure with administrative capacity and a deep understanding of Nigeria’s political landscape. They expressed confidence that his leadership would help the party conduct a credible and inclusive primary election capable of attracting strong contenders ahead of the 2027 presidential race.
Party stakeholders also noted that the appointment signals the ADC’s determination to position itself as a major force in the coming elections. They added that consultations and strategic engagements are already ongoing across different states to expand the party’s support base.
Speaking after the announcement, Imoke reportedly pledged to discharge his responsibilities with fairness, transparency, and commitment to democratic principles. He emphasized the need for unity within the party and called on members to work together toward building a stronger political platform.
The development comes as political parties across the country begin early preparations for the 2027 elections, with alliances, consultations, and internal restructuring already shaping the political atmosphere. Observers believe the ADC’s latest move could influence its chances of gaining greater visibility ahead of the next presidential contest.
