Senator Francis Fadahunsi has apologised for remarks attributed to him during a recent engagement at the palace, while clarifying that his comments were not intended to promote violence or encourage confrontation.

Fadahunsi, a prominent political figure from Osun State, expressed regret over the interpretation of his remarks and acknowledged the sensitivity surrounding statements made in traditional settings. He maintained that his intention was to express his views on issues affecting the community and not to undermine the authority or dignity of the traditional institution.

The senator firmly denied making any call for violence. According to him, his position has consistently been centred on peaceful dialogue, responsible political engagement and the resolution of disagreements through lawful and constitutional means.

He explained that some portions of his comments may have been misunderstood or taken out of context, leading to concerns about the message being conveyed. He therefore offered an apology for any offence or discomfort caused by his choice of words.

Fadahunsi also used the opportunity to commend the leadership of Owa Haastrup, describing the traditional ruler as an important figure whose leadership contributes to peace, unity and stability within the community.

He stressed the importance of respecting traditional institutions and maintaining constructive relationships between political leaders, community stakeholders and traditional rulers.

The senator’s clarification is expected to help ease tensions surrounding the controversy and reinforce the need for responsible communication, particularly when addressing sensitive community and political matters.

Fadahunsi further emphasised that differences of opinion should not become grounds for hostility. He called on stakeholders and members of the public to prioritise peace, mutual respect and dialogue in addressing disagreements.

He reiterated his commitment to the interests of his constituents and the broader development of the community, while expressing respect for traditional leadership and the role it plays in maintaining social cohesion.

The controversy has also highlighted the importance of careful communication by public officials, particularly when statements are made in settings involving traditional authorities and community leaders. Fadahunsi’s apology and clarification signal an effort to draw a line between political disagreement and actions that could threaten peace or public order.
