The Bauchi State Police Command has arrested a 22-year-old suspected drug dealer and rescued a 14-year-old boy allegedly recruited to distribute illicit substances to customers in the state.
The operation, carried out by operatives of the command’s Violent Crimes Response Unit (VCRU), resulted in the recovery of several suspected illicit drugs and controlled pharmaceutical substances from the suspect’s shop and residence.
The command’s Police Public Relations Officer, SP Nafiu Habib, disclosed that the operation was conducted on October 26, 2026, during a routine patrol.
Police Intercept 14-Year-Old Boy
According to the police, operatives intercepted a teenager identified as Samuel Nkemakolan Kosi at approximately 11:00 a.m. while he was allegedly on his way to deliver a granular whitish substance suspected to be methamphetamine, popularly known as Ice, to a customer.
During interrogation, the teenager reportedly identified Samuel Ogochukwu, 22, as the individual who had sent him to deliver the substance.
The police subsequently launched an operation to locate the suspected supplier.
Police Arrest Suspected Drug Dealer
Following information provided by the teenager, detectives traced and arrested Ogochukwu at his location.
A thorough search of his shop and residence led to the recovery of several substances suspected to be illicit drugs and controlled medications.
The recovered items included:
1. 3.5 grammes of a substance suspected to be methamphetamine.
2. Seventeen sachets of 100mg Tramadol capsules.
3. Five sachets of 300mg Pregabalin capsules.
4. Seven sachets of Diazepam.
5. Twelve Exol tablets.
6. Two wraps of a substance known as Yellow Boys.
7. One sachet of a substance identified as Shine Shine Leather.
The recovered substances were reportedly taken into police custody as exhibits for further investigation.
Suspect Reveals Source of Drug Supplies
During the investigation, the principal suspect reportedly disclosed that he received supplies of illicit drugs through waybills from Onitsha, Anambra State.
The revelation has raised concerns about the distribution networks through which prohibited substances and potentially dangerous medications find their way into communities.
The police are expected to continue investigating the circumstances surrounding the alleged supply arrangements and determine whether other individuals are connected to the suspected distribution network.
Rescued Teenager to Receive Counselling
The police command confirmed that the rescued 14-year-old boy had been handled in accordance with juvenile protection procedures.
According to the police, arrangements would be made to reunite him with his family after appropriate counselling.
The development has renewed concerns about the exploitation of minors by individuals involved in drug trafficking and the distribution of harmful substances.
The use of children as couriers exposes them to serious physical, psychological and legal risks while potentially drawing other vulnerable young people into criminal activities.
Police Commissioner Warns Drug Traffickers
The Commissioner of Police in Bauchi State, CP Sani-Omolori Aliyu, commended operatives of the Violent Crimes Response Unit for their commitment and operational effectiveness.
He disclosed that the command had recorded four major drug-related operations within ten days, with suspects arrested in previous operations subsequently convicted.
The commissioner assured residents that the command would sustain its efforts against drug trafficking, substance abuse and other criminal activities across the state.
He also encouraged members of the public to support security agencies by providing credible information that could assist in identifying and dismantling criminal networks.
Suspect to Face Prosecution
The police confirmed that the arrested suspect would be charged before a court upon the conclusion of investigations.
The command reiterated its commitment to protecting vulnerable members of society, particularly children who may be exposed to criminal exploitation.
The incident highlights the growing importance of collaboration between security agencies, parents, schools and community leaders in preventing drug abuse and protecting young people from criminal networks.
The major concern remains how many other vulnerable children may be exposed to similar exploitation and what measures can be introduced to prevent drug traffickers from using minors to distribute dangerous substances.
