President Bola Tinubu and members of the Federal Executive Council (FEC) recited the former Nigerian National Anthem, “Arise, O Compatriots,” during a meeting of the Council, drawing attention to the anthem’s continued symbolic significance despite its replacement as the country’s official national anthem.
The rendition took place at the beginning of the council meeting before the commencement of official proceedings. Ministers and other senior government officials joined the President in singing the anthem in a solemn atmosphere.
The event generated public discussion because Nigeria’s official national anthem had been changed, making the recitation of the former anthem at a high-level government gathering a notable development. While no official policy announcement accompanied the rendition, the moment sparked conversations about national identity, patriotism, and the historical role of the anthem in Nigeria’s democratic journey.
The Federal Executive Council meeting proceeded with deliberations on key government policies, economic matters, infrastructure projects, and other issues requiring executive approval. Ministers also received updates from various ministries and agencies on the implementation of ongoing programmes aimed at promoting national development.
Government officials at the meeting reaffirmed their commitment to national unity, good governance, and the continued pursuit of policies designed to improve the welfare of Nigerians. They emphasized the importance of patriotism, service, and collective responsibility in addressing the country’s challenges.
The meeting concluded after the Council considered several memoranda and resolutions relating to governance, public administration, and the implementation of priority projects across different sectors.
